What are the types of braces?

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic Braces are the kind of braces that gives freedom to be creative and fashionable, same size and shape as metal braces, except that they have tooth-coloured or clear brackets included.

Advantage: Less prominent than metal braces; move the position of the teeth faster than aligner
Disadvantage: more expensive than metal braces and brackets can easily be stained.

Lingual Braces

Lingual Braces are the same as traditional braces, except that the brackets and wires are placed on the inside of the teeth. The most difficult and painful type of braces.

Advantage: Invisible from outside
Disadvantage: Difficult to clean, more expensive and not appropriate for severe cases; can be more uncomfortable at first; regular adjustments take longer and are more difficult than with traditional braces.


Invisalign is a different type of braces, it consists of a series of 18 to 30 custom-made, mouth guard-like clear plastic aligners. The aligners are removable and are replaced every 2 weeks.

Advantage: Nearly invisible and Allow you to eat and drink anything since it’s removable.
Disadvantage: Available for teens and adults only and Less effective for severe cases. More expensive than others. Brushing the teeth after eating is required to avoid staining.

Retainers and Mouth Guards are usually the common treatment a person can have to maintain the new position of the teeth.
